Delorean

Delorean. Why a Delorean? Well, besides the obvious answer of "why not?", there are a couple more. First, I think everybody wanted one the first time they saw Back to the Future. This was a mere confirmation for me. The first time I ever saw a picture of one, I wanted one. I saved so many ads, articles and pictures of this car. There are so many unique things with it. First the gull wing doors (not so unique, but probably the most recognizable car with this feature - if someone sees a car with gull wing doors, chances are likely they'll point and say "look, just like the Delorean"). Next, the stainless steel body. Very cool, although I've seen some cars painted black, and it looks so much better. However, I don't think I could personally do it. FYI, there were 3 that were made that are gold plated. Lastly, just the styling and legendary status of the thing is just plain cool.

Deloreans are not really that much. In fact, I've seen some deteriorated examples going for around $8000. One of my rules (that I used to break religiously) is not to buy a car that priced way under what it should be worth. Chances are theres something wrong with it. A good example of a Delorean could be found for $11000 to $12000. I would probably look in that range. And many people are concerned with maintenance. Well, not that these cars are reliable, but there are places now to get parts. Theres a guy in Texas who bought the entire stock of parts from the Delorean factory in Belfast. On top of that, theres a couple places that I've found (one is DeloreanOne) that only do Delorean work. If you have a competent mechanic and a shop manual, you can get the parts and have it fixed. Not as cheap as your Honda, but its not impossible or as tricky as it might have been in the past.

Heres a photo I grabbed, but feel free to punch "delorean" in to any search engine, and tons of sites will come up.
